About Pacific Gyre
Pacific Gyre, Inc. was established by its president, Andrew Sybrandy in November,
1994. Mr. Sybrandy has a degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years experience
as a Developmental Engineer at Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO), where he
worked under Principal Investigator Pearn P. Niiler. Mr. Sybrandy directed numerous
engineering cruises as chief scientist in order to evaluate the performance of the
SVP (Surface Velocity Program) drifter and improve it's design. He is also the principal
author and co-author of several publications regarding the behavior of such instruments.
Pacific Gyre’s corporate office and warehouse are located in Oceanside, California
where we design and manufacture oceanographic research equipment for remote, environmental
data collection. Our customers include research institutions, governmental agencies
and municipalities who wish to collect physical data about the open-ocean, coastal
waters, lakes, and estuaries. Our company specializes in air and ship-deployed drifting
buoys that are designed to follow ocean currents in a Lagrangian sense. We also
have experience with other ocean platforms. Pacific Gyre manufactures a suite of
standard products, and also works with customers to innovate new designs.
